Night Owls was a project I created for the East West Mural Fest in Victoria–Esquimalt. The area around the building is known for having a lot of owls, so the organizers specifically asked me to design an owl-themed mural. I chose a nighttime concept with high-contrast, monochromatic colors.
The walls were massive, so I had to work from a boom lift, and I even hired a small crew of artists to help block in the larger areas. The structure itself was unusually shaped—with windows, a tree, a gate, and some suspicious-looking hanging electrical cords—so I had to consider all of that while planning the layout.
I remember it being extremely hot during the installation, so having two walls actually helped; I could switch sides depending on where the shade was at different times of the day.
